Bamboo is actually grass that grows mainly in the tropics. This means that they are more or less used to warm weather with regular rainfall. Due to the beauty and simplicity of a bamboo plant, many home owners like to grow them indoors. There are many ways to care for indoor bamboo plants. These are relatively easy to remember and not as time consuming as you might think.

How Do You Take Care Of These Things?

One of the first things you need to realize when you get bamboo for your indoor plant is that it is used to humidity and warmth. With this in mind, care for indoor bamboo plant can commence.

Once you have acquired a bamboo plant, you can try to place it in a sheltered spot where there is enough light and shade. This way it can get used to limited sunlight when it is in your house. It is not recommended to use fertilizer on your new bamboo plant immediately since the nursery or plant store where you bought it may have already put some fertilizer.

Bamboo plantings, as a feature of home landscaping, are more popular than ever. Landscaping a bamboo garden can both add an air serenity and mystery to a yard, and, because bamboo grows quickly, can provide your home with a tall, dense privacy screen in a relatively short period of time.

But if you’re going to attempt landscaping a bamboo garden on your own, first decide if you want to educate yourself in its proper care. If you don’t learn in advance the correct landscaping bamboo garden techniques, and which bamboo varieties are suitable for your growing conditions, you will run into trouble.

Needless to say, furniture made of bamboo trees is becoming extremely common. Whether it be a decorative item or a chair, a table or a fancy sofa, bamboo has somehow found a way to break into the hearts of many people especially in the areas which are close to forests. Today bamboo furniture is no longer considered as substitutes used only by the poor.

Undoubtedly this strong and sturdy tree is finding its use in many aspects of our daily lives. Take The Original Bamboo Factory started in Jamaica in 1989 for an example; it delivers high quality furnishings from finely selected locally grown bamboo. They are pioneers in creating exquisite bamboo furniture from the same not only for private homes but also for commercial purposes. Now who can resist that! All of us have a tendency of changing furniture once every 5 years at least, am I not correct?

How To Keep Your Bamboo From Upsetting The Neighbours!

Growing bamboo for the first time requires a little due diligence however, once you have grasped the nature of bamboo, maintaining it at a healthy level is relatively easy.

Growing bamboo is basically like building a house; you want to make sure the foundation is solid otherwise you'll encounter problems later on. It's placement in a garden is important. Generally, they enjoy full sun and in the initial growing phase, require some attention via watering, fertilizing and protection from competing weeds.

Runners And Clumpers

One aspect of growing this plant that people often overlook is the nature of bamboo: is it a running variety or a clumper. If you live in suburbia or a high density housing area then runners may not be a good idea unless you have a sound knowledge of containing them. Running varieties can cause havoc because of their ability to produce runners below the surface which can travel a great distance from the main base of the plant.

Bamboo Garden Benches

Bamboo garden benches are especially popular with people, who want their gardens to exude peace and serenity. Bamboo is also a commonly used item for various furniture items because it has a very natural look and provides both durability and comfort. The benches made with bamboos, can have specially designed seats that can be placed in different positions to offer seating areas to different people.

Bamboo has small straight fine grains like oak wood but is usually quite strong and can endure the hardships caused by weather changes in outdoor conditions. Usually the muso variety of bamboo is used for making such garden benches. This variety of bamboo is relatively straight and also has a relatively thicker wall. This makes this particular variety of bamboo extremely strong and durable. This feature also enables the makers of garden benches to fashion the bamboo in various ways so that the finished garden bench can be beautifully handcrafted. Usually bamboo garden benches are handcrafted, while keeping in mind the intricate details of the bench. Usually every piece is sanded and polished that gives the benches a finished yet natural look. These bamboo benches are usually polished with natural oils.

It is essential for every home to have some sort of light control device, to prevent excess light from entering the home. Wood blinds are an excellent option to combat excess light and enhance the interiors. They allow partial or complete blockage of light, creeping into a room. Wood blinds can be made from a variety of material such as fabric, wood, metal or bamboo.

Bamboo wood blinds look stylish and require minimal maintenance. They are popular, elegant and look very traditional. Many bamboo wood blinds are hand- made, by skilled and experienced workers. They are easy to install and can be rolled up smoothly. Bamboo blinds come in exotic patterns and are quite inexpensive.

It is advisable for customers to compare the prices of various bamboo blinds online, before making a choice. Most online suppliers have catalogs that help customers in their selection. Bamboo wood blinds come with a limited warranty from most manufacturers. Customers can even buy customized bamboo wood blinds to suit their individual needs. It is recommended that customers seek professional advice, before deciding on a design.

Bamboo Room Dividers

Bamboo Room Dividers can add elegance and a touch of the exotic to any decorating theme. You can use them in most any room of your home to add a decorative touch to corners as well as divide a large room into 2 cozy spaces.

If you have one large room that serves double duty as a living room and dining room you can use a room divider to section each space off from the other thus creating 2 intimate spaces. And the best part is that if you get tired of the look you can always just fold up the room divider and store it away or use it in another room

There are several ways to us a room divider to decorate your room. Aside from using it in the middle of a large room as mentioned above, you can also use it just flat against the wall to add a bit of drama. If you want to soften up the corners in a room put a folding screen kitty corner to round it out. Don't be afraid to put a decorative plant or some a piece of furniture in front of the divider. If you have other themed accent pieces, try draping them over the divider.

Bamboo makes an excellent flooring product. Although it is usually classified within the hardwood family, bamboo is not a hardwood – it is a grass. The features and benefits that make it an excellent flooring product are:

hardness
durability
beauty
environmental friendliness

Strength and Durability

When looking at a cane of bamboo it may seem flimsy in appearance, yet its surface is actually 25 percent harder and it is just as strong as Red Oak the hardwood most often used in flooring. Its durability and impact resistance is unmatched as Bamboo has a harder surface than Rock Maple.

Installed bamboo contracts and expands 50 percent less than most other hardwoods making it a perfect floor in most environmental conditions.

As the popularity of hardwood flooring grows, some people are looking for new and different alternatives. One of these alternatives is bamboo flooring. It is gaining in popularity for a number of reasons: it is environmentally friendly, very strong and very beautiful. The major flooring manufacturers such as Armstrong, Columbia and Mohawk have recognized its potential and now offer bamboo flooring.

Bamboo is probably the strongest flooring material used for home purposes. Because of this, it is very durable, more so than most wood floors and almost as strong as stone, while being much more comfortable than stone. In terms of weight, feel and density, bamboo acts just like a hardwood floor.

Bamboo floors can be solid bamboo, or they can be "engineered" floors, where the bamboo is mixed with other woods. The usual way of manufacturing an engineered floor is to have a bamboo surface over a plywood substrata. Bamboo, just like other hardwood floors, can be stained and urethaned for protection.

A gazebo is a wonderful solution for your garden and backyard hosting options, gazebos are used for a verity of different tasks today, but first and foremost a gazebo is a great place to have family and friends enjoy your garden or your backyard.

In the recent years more and more people are discovering the gazebo, it is a structure that is placed in the garden or backyard and that is perfect for holding gardening tools and for spending nice afternoons at. The gazebo market has grown considerably over the last few years, offering an abundance of gazebos made of different materials.

Two very unique gazebo materials are wood and bamboo gazebos, wood is considered to be the classic material for a gazebo, it blends in wonderfully with a garden, providing an all natural feeling and a nice flow, wood is the basic material used to construct the first gazebos years ago.

A bamboo gazebo would add an Asian quality to your backyard, some even make it themselves, it is no simple task but it is definitely possible for a person to build his own bamboo gazebo in a few weekends. You will need to find the type and kind of bamboo you want and then you will need to make a plan for the gazebo.

You can't even begin to imagine how many uses there are for bamboo and how many things are made from bamboo.

For example. Did you know that some fishing flyrods are made from bamboo?

A gentleman by the name of Ward Dunham makes bamboo pens. He uses these for blackletter and other types of Gothic writing.

Bamboo is also used for making baskets. No, not all baskets are made of straw. Bamboo is quite commonly used in the making of baskets and it is quite strong.

How strong? There is a bridge in Bali that is made from bamboo. Certainly it would have to be strong to support a person or persons walking across.

In Denmark there is a company that makes bicycles out of bamboo.

TUBS Marine in Angeles City builds hybrid steel and bamboo boats and fishing sleds.

It is also possible to build bamboo housing. I don't think anyone would want to be in one of these when a strong wind came around.

Bamboo fibers are also used to strengthen epoxy composites which is commonly used to strengthen concrete. Maybe that's why our roads get potholes so easily.

Habu textiles uses bamboo in the making of yarn. The yarn is made by a process similar to the way rayon is made

A gentleman by the name of Omer Kursat uses bamboo to make what he calls "Artifacts of a One Man Tribe."

A friend of mine who is a musician tells me that certain musical instruments are made of bamboo, most commonly the bamboo flute. It has a very different sound from the traditional metal flute. He describes it as being more airy and lighter sounding.

In Japan many traditional crafts including window blinds are made from bamboo.

There is quite a bit of furniture that is made out of bamboo. Another friend of mine has a bamboo made lawn chair. He tells me that it's quite sturdy. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization has a number of articles on this.

A gentleman by the name of Christoph Tonges has a site that explains some of the bamboo construction techniques needed for making anything out of bamboo. Well, you didn't just think they threw this stuff together did you?

Bamboo furniture has a style and beauty all its own. As beautiful as any other wood furniture, bamboo pieces have the added advantage of being much more environmentally friendly. The range of furniture and accessories available is quite wide. Bamboo furniture pieces will fit in every home and every room in the home.

Bamboo furniture is not all alike. The look, it allows you to create, can range from pure fun to classic. Its natural beauty is only matched by its strength and is highly functional. Bamboo pieces compliment the seasons; it is cool and fresh in the summertime and warm in the cold of winter. Decorating with bamboo furniture is something different, new, and exciting to consider for your living space.

With tables to stools, benches, and chairs, bamboo furniture can be used as complimentary pieces as well as the total theme for your rooms. Because bamboo furniture has been around for so long, you are able to decorate with classic pieces with the traditional yellowish high gloss finish or more subtle, contemporary styles. Bamboo is also used to enhance pieces, as a veneer, on larger laminated items, for instance, bookshelves, cabinets, chairs, sofas, and tables. Whatever style you choose, bamboo pieces will enchant the guests you invite to your home.

The range of furniture pieces made form bamboo is almost limitless. Both solid and veneer functional pieces can be found for every space in your home such as:

Couches

Stools

Rockers

Chairs

Sofas

Loveseats

Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets

Beds

Chest of Drawers

Desks and Workstations

Bamboo is a unique member of the grass family that can take on various shapes and forms to give comfort and style to our lives. Bamboo has become an indispensable part of modern furniture, flooring, shades and curtains used for decorating inside and out. Bamboo fences around large corporations and restaurants are frequently seen and are quite attractive.

Bamboo fences come in a wide range of styles to compliment gardens, ponds, courtyards, decks and patios around a home. They also works well as an enclosure for a business parking lot or lawns. Bamboo fences can be tailor-made to your specifications and are long lasting, non-toxic, environment friendly and unique looking. Bamboo is stronger than wood and highly flexible, which makes it the most preferred choice for designing fences these days. With proper care and maintenance, bamboo fences can last up to 20 years. They fit in any garden settings, giving it an oriental, stylish look. They not only add an elegant look to your garden, they also help to reduce noise and provide shade.

Probably not on its own, but its an excellent example of how consumers can vote with their buying dollars to sway market demand to bring more environmentally friendly products into the marketplace.

Bamboo flooring is a rising trend in home flooring and a great alternative to traditional hardwood floors. It is the most environmentally friendly natural hardwood flooring alternative you can select for your home, it is a renewable resource, is stronger than steel, and has a greater resistance to expansion and contraction problems associated with temperature and humidity changes.

There is no doubt bamboo provides great versatility in many forms of home life. Whether it's used as a fence break, in fashion or as food, bamboo just keeps producing the goods.
Nowadays, bamboo has become one of the worlds most popular decorative plants, both indoor and outdoor. From my perspective, I'm just amazed at how I have become a bamboo addict. I remember it growing wild on my parents farm in Australia and my impressions then were always how ugly it looked. It was all over the place. How things have changed.

So what about caring for bamboo? For those who can't afford to keep purchasing bamboo arrangements there are some simple steps you can follow to ensure it stays around a lot longer than you initially anticipated.

The best time to plant will vary depending on many factors, including the region and the bamboo species. In mild regions, a healthy, well-established propagation can be planted successfully year around. For most regions, however, late summer/early fall is the best time for numerous reasons. For one, new culms will be finished shooting, so the risk of new shoots aborting or breaking is eliminated. Also, cooling air temperatures, the warmest annual soil temperatures, and increased rainfall can create ideal conditions for bamboos to establish before the going dormant over winter

In general, temperate bamboos respond to warming temperatures and day length, sending up a wave of new shoots once per growing season in spring. However there are many exceptions to this pattern; some species shoot in fall, some have two shooting periods, and others seem to send up shoots all growing season.

Like other grasses, bamboos have jointed stems, small flowers enclosed in structures known as spikelets, a specially modified embryo within the seed, and a grainlike fruit. However, bamboos are the only major group of grasses adapted to the forest habitat, and they differ from other grasses in having highly scalloped photosynthetic cells in their leaves. Many bamboos have tall, somewhat arched stems, but others are shrubby, or slender and twining, and some resemble ferns.
